There are times when you need to create online, learning content products quickly. Maybe your competition is about to release something that will attract your customers away. Or maybe your customers have indicated they are facing a problem that you need to solve. Or maybe there's been a change in the environment. Whatever the reason, you find yourself suddenly needing to create a new online product quickly.
But how?
In this article, I'm going to show you one way to create an online, learning content product quickly. I'm going to use a seven-step blueprint to illustrate the process.
Let's start with a few parameters. First, I'm going to presume that you have a learning content products business already. That means you know your customers already. It also means you already have a problem and a solution. Second, I'm going to define a limit that this is an additional product not in your original product line plans. Third, I'm going to presume that you've already decided on a subject for your product based on information from your customers. I'm going to use an example of an audio product only because I need some type of media. Next, I'm going to presume that you are comfortable making audio recordings and don't need to make multiples in order to feel comfortable. And finally, I'm going to stop when you have a product ready for publishing.
1. Decide what your product will be like when you finish. Before you start, you need to know what you are producing and why. We've already decided it will be an audio product which means it will last about one hour. And you've already determined the subject. So you can expect to spend about 5 minutes on this task mostly calculating how many points you will need to discuss.
2. Design your product. Using the content map or an equivalent tool, you need to design your presentation down to a paragraph level of detail. For an audio presentation, you'll be expected to speak for about one minute on each point. For a one-hour presentation, this step should take about one hour or less.
3. Edit the design. Review your design with someone else. Does it make sense? Have you covered everything you need? Have you left anything out? I would allow an hour for this although it should take much less.
4. Record the audio. Even if you are as good a speaker as we've already decided you were, you're going to want to make at least two recordings. Three would be better. While we've already decided you're going to speak for an average of one minute per point, the reality is you may find yourself long or short. The first run through will help you to make any notes you need to help interpret the outline and also make any changes you need that the structural edit didn't pick up. With practice, you may find that you don't need more than one recording. Don't worry about mistakes. Just keep going. This task will take you roughly three hours for two recordings or four and a half hours for three.
5. Edit the audio. Here's why you can finish the audio recording so quickly. You're going to remove any mistakes using one of the other recordings to make patches if necessary. This should take roughly two to three hours.
6. Add the audio packaging. All professional audio products have what is called audio packaging. This includes the introductory and closing credits and any transitions you need. You'll also add any music you wish to use for the transitions or credits or as a background. This typically is done as part of the editing step. However, you should allow about an hour for this step.
7. Prepare the marketing package. Your product is now ready for sale after about nine hours of work. However, you're going to need a few things to support selling your product. For example, you'll need a picture of a CD and case so people can visualize your product. You'll also need a sales page. How long this takes depends on your knowledge and the type of site you've created. However, you should be able to complete this within a day.
